The Weeknd has previewed his upcoming album Starboy with a stunning visual representation that takes place in the form of a twelve minute YouTube video.
To promote the release of his Starboy LP on Black Friday 2016, the Weeknd put together a medley of new songs accompanied by moving pictures called M A N I A. The piece opens with a black panther in homage to Michael Jackson, before revealing the star (boy) Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, as he meets up with his girlfriend at a dimly lit nightclub. It was directed by Grant Singer and features model/actress Anais Mali.
Starboy is set to drop on November 25, 2016 on XO and Republic Records (Universal Music Group). The highly anticipated release includes vocals by Lana Del Rey, Future and Kendrick Lamar, as well as music production from Cashmere Cat and Daft Punk. The lead single “Starboy” featuring Daft Punk already peaked at #2 on the Billboard Top 100, beat only by The Chainsmokers “Closer” featuring Halsey.
